What you need:
- textile markers
- old cotton bag or other fabric remnants (as light as possible)
- denim jacket
- printed template
- pair of compasses
- scissors
- cardboard backing
- adhesive tape
Whether it's a tear or a stain on your favourite jacket, turn it into something new! Simply make patches from an old cotton bag and give your jacket its very own look.
Step 1
Print out a template, or be creative yourself and draw your own design on a sheet of paper, and fix it to a piece of cardboard.
Step 2
Put the cardboard in the bag so the colour doesn't go through to the bottom layer of fabric. Smooth out the fabric so that the outlines of the motif are more visible.
Step 3
For a neat round edge, draw a circle around the motif with a pair of compasses or a suitably sized plate.
Step 4 and 5
Now trace the outlines of your motif with a black textile marker and colour the motif in as you wish.
Step 6
The colours of the textile markers become fixed as they dry. Either wait 24 hours or, if you can't wait to use the finished product, iron the motif without steam.
Step 7
After ironing or drying you can now sew the motif over the stain or tear in your denim jacket and your new old eye-catcher is ready to be worn again.
Tip
Be careful when trying out the washing temperature. The higher the natural fibre content of the fabric, the higher you can set the washing temperature (40° to 60°C). When washing, it is best to use fine or colour detergents, which are generally gentle on colours and fade less.
If possible, wash newly purchased fabrics in advance so that the textile marker ink can penetrate deep into the fibres. It is best to use a delicates cycle and mild detergent when washing so you can enjoy your unique item for as long as possible. This is because colour brilliance depends not only on the texture of the fabric, but also on the temperature and the particular laundry detergent.
